Don't expect John Wall to return for Wizards if NBA season resumes

John Wall is in the process of rehabbing from an Achilles tendon injury, and although he's been making significant strides, he probably won't return to action this season.

“We’ve said all along that we can’t wait until John plays next season, and I think that will still be our attitude and our stance,” Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard said, "We’re very anxious to see John Wall in uniform next year. I don’t think any of this changes that.”

It takes about 11-15 months for an Achilles tendon injury to heal, but the Wizards knew he would be out longer than that. Even with the coronavirus postponing the NBA season, Wall probably won't be ready to return for the current suspended season.

The COVID-19 outbreak has actually done more to hinder Wall than help him, especially considering NBA facilities are shut down as well as many health care buildings.

The Wizards are being extremely cautious with Wall, and it'll be for the best if forgoes the rest of the 2019-20 season as Washington currently is out of a playoff spot.

Wall averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds during the 2018-19 season before suffering a heel injury for which he had surgery. The achilles tendon injury happened while he was at home, according to Buckner.

While injuries have derailed his career over the last two years, it'll be interesting to see how he performs when he returns to action.

Erin Walsh is a Boston sports fan through and through. Although many think Boston sports fans are insufferable, Erin tries to see things from a neutral perspective. Her passion is hockey, and she believes defense wins championships.
